HorseNet's Mission |
 |
Our mission is to save as many unfortunate victims of the horse world as we humanly can. We strive to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals whenever and wherever we can. To that end, we will provide care for abused, abandoned, neglected, aged, and unwanted horses or those horses who can no longer be cared for by their owners for whatever reason. We accept them in any condition and do everything in our power to provide needed care and veterinary services.
HORSENET'S STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
HorseNet's goal is to make decisions that will help make the future for horses better than their past experiences. Our mission is to be a hub of education in humane horse care and training methods, alternative therapies, horse rehabilitation and rescue. The only way to stop the suffering is to teach people better ways of caring for their horses. Our organization's desire is to act as a center for horses to become healthy and move on to happy, productive lives and permanent loving homes.
Whether a horse is suffering from being severely beaten, abused, neglected, starved or just in a situation that requires a new environment, opportunity, or new option at life, we will help in any way possible. Horses that may require our help can range from Animal Control seizures to individuals without the means to keep their horse for reasons to including job loss, forced relocation due to unemployment, financial difficulties, divorce, injury, or health problems of either the owner or the equine, or just a riding discipline for which the horse is not suited. Whatever the reason, we will do all that we can for a horse that needs help.
HorseNet not only seeks to work closely with Animal Control and state officials by housing and transporting abused and neglected horses, but also with the owners of these horses. All information on owners are kept confidential. HorseNet does not aspire to be the "horse police" but instead act as a helping hand for both horses and owners, educating whenever possible. Providing new opportunities, and making people aware of other options can keep horses from having to leave their homes where they are loved.
Many times by approaching situations from the standpoint of wanting to help, we find that the condition of the horse is not due to neglect, but just from not knowing the correct way to handle the situation at hand. By treating the owners with respect and offering to help them we are more likely to be accepted thus making it possible to help the horse. That is HorseNet's ultimate goal.
Educating the owners not only help the horse now, but also in the long term. Through information sharing and education, the owners can and will share their knowledge with others they are in contact with, thereby making the horse world in general more enlightened and abuse free. It is not our intent to forcefully take people's horses from them, but to educate them in better ways of caring for their horses, should they desire to keep them. If the horse is released to us, we will aggressively provide the horse with the necessary veterinarian care and do what we can to place the horse in a new loving home.
HorseNet's goal is to move horses through the center, rehabilitating as necessary and putting these horses in an environment where they can come in contact with prospective adopters. The ultimate goal is to find loving homes for these horses where they will get the specialized care they need and no longer suffer any abuse or neglect. At no time will any horse go to auction, be sold for slaughter, bred or given away to an uncertain ending. Only after all attempts and options at rehabilitation have failed and the horse continues to suffer will humane euthanasia be considered.
Using our network 'HorseNet Connects' will also place horses. Horsenet Connects is putting the people who have horses to place in touch with people looking for horses. These horses would still go through HorseNet's organization thereby giving the owners the security of knowing their horse will never go to slaughter.
HorseNet works closely with other rescue organization not only locally, but also across the country to help in difficult situations. This may mean help with networking to find new owners, or sharing experiences and knowledge of other options for alternative health care, or it may mean traveling and transporting horses from bad situations.
To date we have helped with situations in New York, Pennsylvania and Montana and have placed horses from Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey. Our organization intends to set a good example and raise standards of common sense humane treatment for horses. We feel there is a placement for every horse where people will accept them as they are, and ride them within their special limitations and love them for the wonderful unique animals they are.
